How To Descale A Kettle

Nobody likes to see that nasty substance that is at the bottom of your electric kettle. It is actually called lime scale and it is quite difficult to remove from your kettle. For most people, they may just think it’s easier to just throw it away and buy a new one. But by knowing how to properly clean your kettle, you won’t ever have to worry about throwing out another kettle for that purpose again. There are quite a few ways to do it and everyone should choose the one they feel is best for them.

Vinegar is one very popular way to clean the lime scale out of your kettle. The first thing you should do is to fill the kettle with water and vinegar, then set your kettle so it boils. There should be an equal amount of both. Then you simply let it cool and then throw out the water. You will most likely be really surprised by the results that this produces. When you empty the water you should see the lime scale in the water as you dump it. Then all you have to do is rinse out your kettle very good and especially wiping the bottom of the kettle with some soda bicarbonate on a cloth that is wet.

There will most likely be a strong smell from the vinegar you used in the kettle. All you have to do to get rid of the smell is to put some water into your electric kettle and then you boil it and finally empty it out. You may have to do this multiple times to truly get rid of the smell. Do not make any tea in the kettle until you are sure that the smell is completely gone or it could affect the taste of the tea.

Your other option for descaling your kettle is to use lemon. Squeeze one lemon into the kettle and mix the juice with some water. Then you boil it one or two times and let it sit and cool. Once it has cooled, you simply empty out the kettle just like you would with the vinegar. Also clean the bottom of the kettle just like you did with the vinegar, with a wet cloth and soda bicarbonate.

Don’t settle for just throwing away your kettle ever again. It’s a large waste of money when you can clean out the kettle and it will be as good as new. It isn’t even that hard to do, just takes a little effort. At least it does not cost you any money.kettle image
